Steps from the mouth of the Hosoda River, the Furusawa Distillery has been making traditionally handcrafted shochu in Miyazaki Prefecture since 1892. In 1945 MOTOKO became the 3rd generation master brewer-distiller and the first woman to run a Miyazaki shochu distillery in modern memory. She passed her skills down to her daughter, MASAKO (5th generation master), who is now training Motoko’s grandaughter MAHOKO to take over one day.
