William J. Deboe of Crittenden County was the first Kentucky Republican to serve in the U.S. Senate. He served one 6-year term from 1897-1903. Both a Doctor and a Lawyer, he also served as school superintendent and in the State Senate. He attended medical school at the University of Louisville.
